2005 is our 12th year of breeding Birmans. I fell in love with a Birman on a show in Cape Town, South Africa and got my very first Birman, “Angel Baby”, from Nora Anderson in Johannesburg, who at time was the only Birman breeder in South Africa. This Birman, “Angel Baby”, today is still alive and happily living with my brother and sister-in-law, Coenrad and Astrid van der Westhuizen, in Featherbrooke Estate, Johannesburg. And as the saying goes, the rest is history. I can never imagine my life without a Birman, they are our children and spoilt rotten in every aspect.
We imported breeding cats from all over the world and today the Birman is well established in South Africa with quite a number of breeders actively promoting the breed. I sure do miss all my Birman friends and family back home!
In November 2004 my company transferred us from South Africa to Santa Rosa in California. We were given 7 days to relocate and for me to start my new job. My company took care of everything for us, from the packing of our household to the shipping of our beloved cats! We did not bring with all our cats from South Africa and found loving homes for each and every one of them back home.
Initially the changes were daunting and very stressful, but we have found our feet. As time goes by, we are getting used to the culture and our new surroundings. Our cats joined us shortly after our arrival in Santa Rosa. They are slowing getting used to their new lifestyle, different climate and all the rain in winter! Most of them are still in their summer coats, which rules out showing for some time.
We registered our cattery in CFA and our silver Birmans in TICA. Unfortunately the name KYAT was already taken in CFA, so we opted for the name
KYATWO.
We sincerely hope the future in our new home and country is a blessed and happy one. |
